# User Mentions

Tag users in comments to notify them and bring them into the conversation.

## How Mentions Work

Use the @ symbol followed by a username to mention users in comments or replies.

**What happens:**

* User receives email notification
* Comment highlights the mention

## Mentioning Users

### Basic Syntax

Type `@` followed by the user's name:

```
@john What do you think about this feature?
@sarah Have you tried this workflow?
```

### Autocomplete

As you type, an autocomplete dropdown appears:

1. Type `@`
2. Start typing the name
3. Select from dropdown
4. User is tagged

### Multiple Mentions

Mention multiple users in one comment:

```
Great idea! @john and @sarah might have insights on this.
I'd also love to hear from @mike on the technical feasibility.
```

## Mention Notifications

### Email Notification

Mentioned users receive an email:

**Subject:** You were mentioned in a comment

**Content:**

* Who mentioned them
* The comment text
* Link to the feature request
* Context of the discussion

## Who Can Be Mentioned

**Mentionable users:**

* All registered users
* Team members
* Admins

**Cannot mention:**

* Guests (non-registered users)
* Inactive accounts
* Banned users

## Admin Mentions

### Mentioning Admins

Users can mention admins to:

* Request clarification
* Ask for updates
* Report issues
* Get official response

**Example:**

```
@admin When can we expect this feature?
```

### Admin Responses

Admins receive mention notifications and can respond directly in the thread.

## Best Practices

### For Users

**Do mention:**

* People with relevant expertise
* Original submitter for clarification
* Team members involved in discussion
* Admins for official input

**Don't:**

* Spam mention multiple people unnecessarily
* Mention users repeatedly
* Use mentions to harass

### For Productive Discussions

**Be specific:**

```
@sarah You mentioned a similar need in your request.
       How does this compare?
```

**Provide context:**

```
@john As our mobile lead, what's your take on the
      implementation complexity?
```

* Disable mention emails
* Digest mentions daily
* Immediate notifications
