Create Meta Developer Account & App β
To integrate Facebook Messenger with WhatsMark, you first need to create a Meta Developer Account and set up a Facebook App with Messenger capabilities. This guide walks you through the complete process.
Prerequisites β
- A Facebook account
- A Meta Business Portfolio (Business Suite) linked to your Facebook Page
- Business verification completed on your Meta Business Portfolio
Step 1: Access Meta for Developers β
- Go to developers.facebook.com
- Log in with your Facebook account
- If this is your first time, accept the Meta Developer terms to activate your developer account
Step 2: Create a New App β
- Navigate to My Apps from the top navigation bar
- Click the Create App button

Step 3: App Details β
- Enter your App name
- Enter your App contact email - this email will be used by Meta for app-related communications
- Click Next

Step 4: Select Use Case β
- From the list of use cases, select "Engage with customers on Messenger from Meta"
- This use case allows you to respond to messages sent to your business' Facebook Page and set up automatic replies or use a human agent to respond
- Click Next

Step 5: Connect Business Portfolio β
- Select your Business Portfolio from the list
- Choose a portfolio with Business and access verification complete status for full access
- If you don't have a verified business portfolio, you can select "I don't want to connect a business portfolio yet" and add it later, but you will need to complete verification before publishing
- Click Next

Step 6: Review Publishing Requirements β
Before your app can go live, Meta requires the following:
| Requirement | Description |
|---|---|
| Business Verification | Verify your business as a business entity to access user data through Meta's APIs |
| Access Verification | Verify that your business is allowed to access another business portfolio's data |
| App Review | Complete all required data usage, data handling, and data protection questions, then submit for App Review |
INFO
These requirements apply when you want to publish your app for production use. For development and testing, you can proceed without completing them.

Step 7: Review Overview & Create App β
- Review all the details on the Overview page:
- App Name and App Email
- Use Case: Engage with customers on Messenger from Meta
- Business Portfolio: Your selected business
- Publishing Requirements: Business verification, Access verification, App Review
- Click Go to dashboard to create the app

Your Meta App is now created and you will be redirected to the App Dashboard where you can configure Messenger settings, generate access tokens, and set up webhooks for integration with WhatsMark.
Next Steps β
After creating your Meta App, proceed to Facebook Messenger Settings to configure webhooks, generate access tokens, and connect your page with WhatsMark.
